You need the technical decisions made well. You do not need a technical director on the payroll to get that. Most businesses spending real money on software sit somewhere between the two. The decisions turn up regardless: which platform, which agency, whether a quote is reasonable, what happens now the developer who built everything has left.
This is the arrangement for that. A day or two a month with someone senior who has built and shipped the kind of thing you are deciding about, sitting on your side of the table rather than selling you the answer.
The important part is independence. We will tell you when the right answer is a piece of off the shelf software, a different supplier, or nothing at all. That advice is worth less to us and more to you, which is rather the point of paying for it.
