The ChalkSpot marketing site

{01} THE IDEA

We didn't design a booking page. We built the software a club runs on.

ChalkSpot is a management platform for gymnastics clubs. Classes, customers, registers and payments in one system, sold as a product rather than built once for one club and left there.

We did all of it: the name, the brand, the interface and the platform underneath. Design and engineering from the same team, which is the only way something like this holds together once real clubs, real families and real money are running through it.

{02} THE CHALLENGE

Most clubs run on a spreadsheet, a group chat and cash at the door.

Clubs are run by people who would rather be coaching. Registers get printed on a Monday, payments arrive in three different ways, and somebody spends their evening working out who actually turned up and who still owes for half a term.

A product is a different problem to a website. Every club's classes, families and money have to sit apart from every other club's and stay that way. Payments have to reconcile. It has to stay quick on gym wifi, and be obvious enough that a coach picks it up mid-session without being trained on it.

It also had to be worth the switch on day one, because nobody moves off a spreadsheet that mostly works.

{03} THE NAME AND THE BRAND

A spot is a place in a class and a coach standing beside you. The name does both jobs.

Chalk is what gymnasts put on their hands. A spot is the place you have booked, and it is also what a coach does when they stand beside an athlete to catch them. ChalkSpot says the product and the sport at the same time, which is why it stuck.

The identity runs on a chalk lime and a near-black, with the O in the mark doubling as the spot. It is bright enough to read across a gym and calm enough to sit in an admin screen somebody stares at all week.

{04} THE PLATFORM

Classes, customers and money, in one place, run by the person on the gym floor.

Clubs set up their classes and sessions, manage the families on their books, and take the register from a tablet as gymnasts arrive. Spaces count down as bookings come in, so a session that is full says so instead of taking another booking.

Payment runs through Stripe and happens at the point of booking, so a place is paid for before it is held. Refunds are handled in the same screen, which is the part clubs ask about first and the part a spreadsheet has never been able to do.

{05} GOING LIVE

It drops into the website a club already has, and we will build them a better one if they want.

By default ChalkSpot is an embed. A club pastes it into the site they already have and their timetable and booking flow appear inside their own pages, styled to match. No migration, no rebuild, and nothing to argue about with whoever looks after their website.

Plenty of clubs get there and decide the site around it is the next problem. So a custom website is an add-on: same team, same brand work, built around the booking flow rather than bolted on beside it.

SaaS

Built as a Product

Named, branded and engineered end to end as software clubs subscribe to, not a one-off build.

Stripe

Payments & Refunds

Parents pay when they book, and a refund is a button rather than a bank transfer.

Embed

On Any Website

ChalkSpot drops into a club’s existing site as an embed, so nobody has to rebuild anything to start.
