A web application is software that happens to run in a browser. Your team opens a URL, logs in, and the thing works the same on a laptop in the office as it does on a phone in a van.
That removes a whole category of problems: no installs, no one running a version from two years ago, no separate build for every device. It also means permissions, security and uptime have to be right, which is most of the real work.
