Earlier this year we went through a hundred established Leeds companies and looked properly at their websites. Twenty-one had no mobile layout at all. Forty-five had analytics that had stopped reporting. Twelve had no security certificate.
These were not struggling businesses. They were profitable companies whose sites had simply stopped being anyone's job, usually after whoever originally built it moved on and nobody replaced them.
That is the ordinary way a good site goes bad, and worth knowing before you commission a new one. What matters is not how it looks at launch. It is whether anyone is still looking after it in year three.
